A Fresh Start for the Canucks - Or is it?

So the Vancouver Canucks are 6 games into the 2008 - 2009 season. With a meagre 3 and 3 record, Canucks fans are, once again, biting their nails asking themselves the big question: A repeat of the 2007 -2008 season?

The Canucks started out the season, firing accurately, dowsing the Calgary Flames in their first two matches.  A convincing 6-0 victory at home, and an exhilirating 5-4 overtime win in Calgary had all of Vancouver cheering for Lou and the boys. Big time sports networks, TSN, Sports Net and The Score all had positive reviews for the Canucks. Even the local sports radio station, 1040 AM, had praises for the Canucks gameplay.

Then it came, like deja-vu... 3 losses in 4 games, and key injuries to the Canucks roster in Chicago. Here's the tale of the tape: 5-1 loss to the Capitals, 4-3 OT win over the Red Wings, 5-2 loss to the Sabres, and 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks of Chicago. Sami Salo, Darcy Hordichuk, and Pavol Demitra all sustained injuries in the Blackhawks game.

Okay, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt, and bring up the topic that they are on a 6 game road trip. This has to affect their game play, right? So the 'nucks were tired, and they're playing in an Easter time zone... But really, they're professional athletes, aren't they expected to step up to get the W?

Any team that wants to contend for the Stanley Cup needs to step up when the going gets rough. Agreeing with the Team 1040, I will put blame on the Sedins. These 2 are expected to lead our team and step up when the time calls for it. Sure, they put up terrific numbers. But what good are these numbers if they are followed with a big "L" for the entire team.

-When will they step up?

The Canucks are in action this evening at 4:00 PM against the Columbus Blue Jackets - hopefully Vancouver isn't disappointed with another loss, and the boys can come home from their "6 game away" trip at .500.
